CBEEBIES MR BLOOM CONFIRMED TO SWITCH ON CASTLETON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Peak District Event: CBEEBIES MR BLOOM CONFIRMED TO SWITCH ON CASTLETON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS Details:
CBEEBIES PRESENTER CONFIRMED TO SWITCH ON CASTLETON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Something exciting is happening this November in the heart of the Peak District.  The magic of Christmas is coming to the village of Castleton.  If mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and a stroll  through  streets lined with Christmas trees on a crisp winter’s day is not enough to get you into the spirit of Christmas,  then spend more time in Castleton on Saturday 19th November and enjoy our annual lights switch on.

Starting the day’s activities will be our first ever Christmas Market in ‘The Peaks Inn’ car park on How Lane starting at midday.  These will continue weather permitting until 8pm.  The market stalls will be selling a variety of festive treats from crafts, gifts, cards to decorations, toys and accessories providing an ideal opportunity to pick up a few stocking fillers for all the family.  There are still a limited number of spaces available for stall holders, please email enquiry@peaksinn.com for further information.

A short walk from the market, you will find goodies galore at Castleton C of E Primary School’s Winter Fayre.  With delicious cakes, treats and hot drinks, it’s the perfect pit stop along the way.
Continue your merry shopping experience by visiting one of the many local gift shops and take advantage of their late night opening times.  Throughout the day Gully Mouse & friends will be walking around the village.  He would love to meet you and tell you all about his magical home, Gulliver's Kingdom. For more information about Gully Mouse vist www.gulliversfun.co.uk/matlock-bath

Up to 40 trees prepared by the villagers, depicting their wide-ranging interests will be on display in St Edmund’s Church which is situated in the centre of the village.  Running until the 12th December, the Christmas Tree Festival is open daily between 12 midday and 4:30pm.

To add a touch of carnival atmosphere to the day local Border Morris Dancers, Powderkegs, will be performing outside the Castleton Visitors Centre and other venues around the village from 3pm for your entertainment.  The 30 strong Whaley Bridge troupe of dancers and musicians are celebrating their 10th Birthday this year.  For details of this and their performances around Derbyshire please visit www.powderkegs.co.uk

Ben Faulks, who plays Mr Bloom on the popular CBeebies children’s programme, Mr Bloom’s Nursery, will be our special guest this year officially switching the lights on at approximately 4:30pm.  This will take place on Cross Street which is the main road through the village.  Hope Valley College Band will be adding to the atmosphere by entertaining the crowds with their festive sound.

Local Children are encouraged to enter our ‘Mr Bloom’s Christmas Garden’ art competition which will be judged by Mr Bloom himself before turning on the lights.  Competition entries will be on display all day for the public to view in the Castleton Visitors Centre.
Previous years have seen stars such as Phil Gallagher (from CBeebies Mr. Maker), Steph Fearon (from BBC's Over the Rainbow) and Bradley Clarkson (from ITV’s Grease is the Word) visit our village to help us light up our streets.
Ben will be playing Muddles at Buxton Opera Houses’ pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs which runs from 10th December 2011 until 1st January 2012.

To book tickets or for further information about the pantomime, please contact the Box Office on 0845 127 2190 or visit www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.  Special thanks to Buxton Opera House for their continued support.

Children (and Adults) will then get the chance to tell Santa what they would like for Christmas when he arrives by sleigh after the lights are switched on.  Entry into the grotto will, at a small fee per child, include a present from Santa.  The Hope Valley Lions Club charity has been running the Castleton Grotto for the last 38 years and the money raised will go to continue helping the local community within the Hope Valley.   The grotto will be open throughout the festive period, from 19th November until 24th December on Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm until 5pm.

If you’re still left wanting more, Peak Cavern will be hosting a concert featuring Tideswell Male Voice Choir starting at 6pm.  Tickets are available in advance or on the door.  Visit www.peakcavern.co.uk for further information or to book your ticket.

There is still more entertainment and activities to be confirmed.  Keep checking this page for details.  We look forward to seeing you all there.
